Mount Kirigalpotta is the second highest mountain in Sri Lanka. This is located in the Nuwara Eliya District.
The peak is 2395 m above sea level and the mountain starts from Horton Plains which is about 2000 m above sea level.
The road to this mountain also passes through Horton Plains. The Agra Oya which flows into the Mahaweli River and the Kehelgamu Oya which flows into the Kelani River start from this mountainous area.
It is believed that the rock got the name Kirigalpottha because it shines brightly when the sun rises on one side of the mountain. Horton Plains National Park is located in the foothills of the Horton Plains. Birds, plants and animals endemic to our country can be seen in the vicinity of Kirigalpotta.
